Since 2023, GBRW has been working with TADB as part of the four-year Improving Access to Agriculture Financing Project, funded by Agence Française de Développement. The state-owned TADB is the primary vehicle used to finance the agricultural sector in Tanzania and has played a pivotal role in supporting the sector’s growth. The project is structured around three key workstreams:
-
Enhancing the Customer Value Proposition
-
Strengthening the Operating Model
-
Developing a Sustainable Finance Strategy
Over the past two years, TADB’s management has made exceptional progress in expanding its financial and non-financial offerings, refining its MEL and Technical Assistance functions, and strengthening policies across ICT, Environmental and Social (E&S) management, and broader governance frameworks.
Building on these advancements, GBRW conducted a tailored workshop in early 2025, equipping TADB’s senior management and staff with the knowledge and tools to implement the bank’s newly developed Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS). The training focused on increasing awareness of E&S principles and embedding them into daily operations—covering essential topics like E&S screening, categorization, and monitoring.
The interactive workshop catered to staff from multiple departments, including Business Development, Credit Appraisal, Risk & Compliance, Research & Advisory, Legal Services, and Audit. A tailored session was also delivered exclusively for senior management, ensuring leadership alignment with TADB’s Environmental and Social Action Plan.
As the first initiative of its kind at TADB, the training sparked significant interest among participants, fostering dialogue and knowledge-sharing between TADB staff and GBRW experts. This engagement marks an important milestone in advancing the implementation of ESMS and Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) within TADB.
