ASEAN Green Roadmap

GBRW Consulting, Green Finance, Green Finance, Sustainable & Development Finance

The GBRW consortium was engaged by the Global Green Growth Institute, an intergovernmental organisation dedicated to promoting green growth, to collaborate with the ASEAN secretariat in developing a regional "Green Map" to support the development of a sustainable finance ecosystem.

ASEAN, a major economic bloc of nearly 700 million people and a GDP exceeding USD 10 trillion, faces the critical challenge of aligning sustainable finance initiatives across its member states.

The ASEAN Green Map provides a unified framework to accelerate climate finance, integrate green financial systems across banking, insurance, and capital markets, and foster regional cooperation. Drawing on global best practices—including lessons from Islamic finance and the EU sustainable finance framework—the Green Map provided a guide to regional policymakers in shaping resilient, green economies.

Key Deliverables:

Strategic Development – Defining economic and political challenges, vision, and key objectives, with engagement from the Bank of Thailand as Chair of the ASEAN Sustainable Finance Committee.

Research & Analysis – Assessing regional financial sector exposure to climate risks, country-level sustainable finance infrastructure, and sub-sectoral developments in banking, capital markets, and insurance.

Global Insights & Policy Impact – Reviewing international sustainable finance frameworks and their implications for ASEAN, including MSME access to green finance.

Green Map Drafting – Developing a comprehensive roadmap in consultation with the ASEAN Working Group.
